Have you been arrested?
Being arrested does not mean you have been convicted of a crime. It may not even
mean you have been charged with a crime.
If you have been arrested, the prosecuting attorney will determine whether to
proceed against you. But, you should not wait until you receive notification
that you are facing charges. If you have been arrested, you should contact an
attorney immediately.
What you say...
We've all heard the Miranda Warning. Part of why you should contact an attorney
if arrested is your statements can be used against you in the future. Often times
the investigating officer wants to "chat" with you. You might think you can explain
away the situation, but that's the wrong thing to do. You need legal counsel
at your side advising you of your rights and protecting your interests.
